Honolulu City Pearl Harbor Duck Tour
Hawaii Duck Tours will not be available until the beginning of October 2010.
Imagine a single vehicle that is both tour bus and a tour boat, moving seamlessly between land and sea. Impossible? Not even! It is called a Duck and you can tour Honolulu in it! The Honolulu City Duck Tour is truly one of the most unique ways to experience the sights of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor.
You’ll be picked up at your Honolulu-Waikiki hotel in a tour bus and taken to historic Pearl Harbor. You will view a film at the Visitors Center and then catch a ride over to the Arizona Memorial. After your visit to the memorial, you’ll be picked up in the Duck and start the Honolulu city portion of the tour. At Keehi Lagoon, you’ll be amazed as the Duck performs a splashdown straight into the water and instantly turns from tour bus to tour boat! You’ll cruise the lagoon before continuing on to other sights on the tour including Sand Island, King Kamehameha statue, Iolani Palace, the state capital building, Honolulu, and Waikiki. With your souvenir duck bills, you’ll have a blast as you “quack” at people you pass during the tour. At the end of the tour, the Duck will return you to your hotel.
A Japanese narrator is available.

Equipment

The DUKW (D-model year 1942, U-amphibian, K-all wheel drive, W-dual rear axles) is boat-like with a hollow airtight body. It was designed to carry 25 soldiers and their equipment, an artillery piece, or 5,000 pounds of general cargo and ammunition. On land, it can go up to 50 miles per hour - fast enough for touring purposes. The United States produced 20,000 DUKWs during World War II, and they first saw use in the invasion of Sicily in 1943. Later, they played an import role in the invasion of Normandy.
